About Calvert Vaux Preservation Alliance
Calvert Vaux Preservation Alliance is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit advocacy organization that is committed to preserving the architectural and landscape design legacy of Calvert Vaux and selected contemporaries, particularly in the vicinity of New York State's magnificent Hudson River Valley. CVPA's mission includes advocacy for Vaux creations and co-creations such as the Hoyt House ("The Point") at Staatsburg, the Children's Aid Society building on Sullivan Street in Manhattan (near NYU), the Newburgh City Club (the Culbert House) in Newburgh, Manhattan's Central Park and the Hudson River State Hospital in Poughkeepsie, among others. The as yet uncompleted restoration of A.J. Davis' Dutch Reformed Church in Newburgh is also of serious concern.
A major component in the mission of Calvert Vaux Preservation Alliance is its role as friend's group of the Calvert Vaux designed Hoyt House ("The Point"), located in Margaret Lewis Norrie State Park in Staatsburg, NY. As friends group, CVPA is committed to the full restoration and adaptive reuse of the Hoyt House complex, including its dependent buildings, as a multi-functional facility for the arts, education, fine cuisine, events and a fully operational, sustainable farm. The Hoyt House is owned by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
